Reba James

LCSW

Taking the first step to seeking a more fulfilling and happier life takes courage. I am here to support you in that process.

Reba James was born in Grenada, West Indies and migrated to New York City with her family. After finishing high school in Brooklyn, she received her Bachelors Degree from the University of Rochester with a major in Political Science. Shortly after graduating she relocated to Richmond, VA with a goal of diving into policy writing and social advocacy for children and adolescents. She began her career working for after school programs and various local group homes for at-risk adolescent males and females, followed by becoming a Residential Manager at a residential hospital for children and adolescents. It was at that time she knew she wanted to pursue a career in Social Work. Reba went on to earn her Masters in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University followed by her LCSW. Prior to joining the Trinity Care team full-time, Reba worked part-time as an Outpatient Therapist. Additionally, she was employed full-time as the Developmental Disabilities Residential Director for the Region 4 REACH Crisis Stabilization Program and Poplar Springs Hospital as the Clinical Director of the Residential Treatment Program.

Reba has worked in a variety of clinical settings such as group homes, residential treatment facilities, crisis centers, detention centers, a juvenile drug court, and outpatient practices. Her clinical experiences include working with children, adolescents, and adults from a variety of ethnic, racial, socioeconomic status, gender, sexual orientation exceptionalities, religious, geographical areas, and academic/professional background. Reba has worked with an array of mental illnesses, but she acknowledges that she has a passion for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. She creates an open and safe environment where true thoughts and feelings can be shared without fear of judgment. Reba considers herself to be a serious-minded person who believes in strong work-ethics and is detailed-oriented. She also considers herself to be a social, fun, and open-minded person. One of her favorite quotes is, The only way to do great work is to love what you do. (Steve Jobs)
